Interviewing Flyleaf @ Six Flags for Upcoming Youth Bible Study

I got to talk with our Director of Production, Phil about his experience interviewing Flyleaf at Six Flags over Texas a few weeks ago.

Flyleaf is an American rock band formed in Temple, Texas in 2000. They performed around the United States in 2003 until releasing their debut album, Flyleaf, in 2005. The band won an online poll on yahoo.com and was named Yahoo!'s Who's Next band of the month in March 2006. They were also named MTV's artist of the week on December 24, 2007.

Flyleaf headlined the concert with Family Force 5 and Hawk Nelson. After the concert, Phil and producer, Mark headed backstage to interview two of the five band members: vocalist, Lacey Mosley and guitarist, Sameer Bhattacharya.

Lacey shared about the early church and how the church made such an impact on culture then because they were countercultural. They lived so differently from everyone around them. Sameer mentioned how a lot of people have been burned by the church and that many Christians are confused about what it means to be a follower of Christ. Lacey stressed how we’re to reach out to those who have been hurt by the church by genuinely loving them. She explained how we really have to study what Jesus taught and did so we know how to make a difference.

What impresses me most about Flyleaf is that they’re engaging with culture; loving on people and meeting them where they’re at. They really are a phenomenon. Not to mention that they write all of their lyrics.

Our interview with Flyleaf will be included in our upcoming Bible study for youth groups, the 2009 Youth Ministry Kit that will release August 1. Check in for details at bluefishtv.
